Land Law

Area Overview

Huge investments in land and the housing sector characterize Uganda’s fast growing economy. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) the number of plans submitted and approved for residential and commercial buildings almost doubled in 2011 compared to 2010. Unfortunately, Uganda’s land law provides for a complex land ownership system. It is common to find firms or individuals who have lost their hard earned money to fraudulent land and property transactions. This is further exacerbated by an inefficient land registry system.
